The vWorkspace Connector for Windows has a known issue with the following optional Microsoft update:

Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (KB2592687)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592687?wa=wsignin1.0

How does this affect vWorkspace Connector for Windows?

[Note: See definition of “client” and “server” at the bottom of the section below titled “What does this Microsoft update do?”]

Known issues (client):

  • The currently shipping Windows Connectors for versions 7.2 MR1, 7.5 and 7.6 do not support a new feature used by the updated RDP8 client (KB2592687). Because of this, client PCs that are updated with this RDP8 update will not be able to connect to Terminal Servers/RDSH or VDI in a vWorkspace farm.

Do not apply this optional update to Windows 7 SP1 PCs or Server 2008 R2 SP1 until a forthcoming updated vWorkspace Windows Connector is installed. We will be releasing a hotfix to address this issue as quickly as possible.

Known issues (server):

This patch should not be applied to any production VDI instances of Windows 7 that are accessed via RDP until supported. vWorkspace support for 2012 and Windows 8 (RDP8) is planned for release in early 2013.

What does this Microsoft update do?

On Windows 7 SP1 PCs:

  • Updates the RDP “client” from RDP7 to RDP8.
  • Updates the RDP “server” to support RDP8.

On Server 2008 R2 SP1:

  • Updates the RDP client-only from RDP7 to RDP8.
  • The RDP server functionality is NOT changed. When connecting to a server with this update, it will support RDP 7.1 because the server components are not updated.

This update will not automatically be installed by Windows Update, and only applies to Windows 7 SP1 PCs and Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Client - The client is used on the local machine to connect to a server resource, such as a terminal server or VDI.

Server - The server in this context is normally a VDI instance of Windows 7, which accepts connections from a client

Workaround

Uninstall the Microsoft update (KB2592687).
